Fin tubes can be recognized to have small fins on its outside surface making everyone detect them easily. These fins are not for show, they act as a transfer mechanism and filter, flowing the heat from outside to inside and vice versa. You can never fix the rate of the heat transfer by merely looking at the tube as it depends upon three factors-
- The coefficient of heat transfer between the fluids and walls of the fin tubes
- The difference of temperature between the fluids
- The surface on which the fluids are exposed
Types Of Fin Tubes
There is a wide range of fin tubes that manufacturers of fin tubes produce. These tubes are used in various industries, inside the heat exchangers. They are used to transfer heat or cold to air, water or chemicals. To name a few industries, these tubes can greatly fit in the petrochemical, power generation, petroleum among many other industries.
When the tubes are manufactured, they go through a corrosion protective process to strengthen it against the failure caused due to corrosion! Some fin tube types are:
1. ‘L’ Fin Tubes
- They can work at a maximum temperature of 150 degrees Celsius
- It has an acceptable level of atmospheric corrosion resistance
- It is made of aluminium and copper
- Offers a poor mechanical resistance
2. ‘LL’ Fin Tubes
- They can work at a maximum temperature of 180 degrees Celsius
- It has an acceptable level of atmospheric corrosion resistance
- It is made up of aluminium and copper
- Offers a poor mechanical resistance
3. ‘KL’ Fin Tubes
- They can work at a maximum temperature of 260 degrees Celsius
- They have an acceptable level of atmospheric corrosion resistance
- They are made up of aluminium and copper
- Offers acceptable mechanical resistance
4. ‘G’ Fin Tubes
- They can work at a maximum temperature of 400 degrees Celsius
- They have a poor level of atmospheric corrosion resistance
- They are made up of carbon, aluminium and copper
- Offers acceptable mechanical resistance
5. Extruded Fin Tubes
- They can work at a maximum temperature of 285 degrees Celsius
- They have an excellent level of atmospheric corrosion resistance
- They are purely made up of aluminium
- Offers excellent mechanical resistance
Why Companies Choose Extruded Fin Tubes?
Most of the industries choose extruded fin tubes as they offer a better level of resistance against corrosion. This helps them to be highly durable thus letting you have a strong heat exchanger. Along with this, they can withstand mechanical stress, thus provide flawless results. It is generally used with industries that do not require the material to reach a very high temperature.
